Project Overview: Guardian

Guardian is a comprehensive assistive technology platform designed for iOS and watchOS to revolutionize how individuals navigate their environments.

By prioritizing inclusive design, the app provides a seamless, high-tech solution for safer and more intuitive mobility.

The Challenge

Traditional navigation tools often fail to provide the real-time, environmental context necessary for users with visual impairments or mobility challenges to move through unfamiliar spaces with complete confidence.

The Solution

Guardian leverages cutting-edge hardware and AI to turn
a mobile device into a sophisticated orientation tool:

  • LiDAR Integration: Uses Light Detection and Ranging
to create high-accuracy maps of the user's immediate surroundings.

  • Spatial Audio: Provides 3D sound cues that "place" obstacles or directions in the user's physical space,
    allowing for eyes-free navigation.

  • AI-Driven Assistance: Employs artificial intelligence
to identify objects, text, and hazards in real-time.

Accessibility-First Design

As a UX/UI designers, we centered the interface on extreme legibility and ease of use:

  • Atkinson Hyperlegible Typeface: Selected specifically to increase character recognition and reduce misreading for users with low vision.

  • High-Contrast Interface: Designed with a color palette that ensures maximum visibility across various lighting conditions.

  • Haptic Feedback: Integrated subtle vibrations to confirm actions and alert users to critical environmental changes.
